FAQs about caatoosee's iq-server
Frequently asked questions about the caatoosee iq-server: general aspects and technical details.

Q: How does the caatoosee iq-server work?
A: With the help of the iq-server information from various data sources can be collected, organized, qualified, profiled and distributed. It uses so-called Agents that monitor the respective data sources and notify the iq-server of any alterations they have detected. Using a range of different modules, users or target applications can "qualify" this data and thus transform it into pertinent information.

Q: Are there any customer references?
A: caatoosee's iq-technology is currently being utilized by more than thirty companies, in the form of various state-of-the-art solutions (network and stand-alone applications). SAP, for instance, uses the iq-server throughout the group for data-cleansing purposes.

Q: What are the system requirements for caatoosee iq-server?
A: caatoosee's iq-server requires Windows 2000/NT, Linux or Solaris. iq-server is based on J2EE, and therefore it can easily be migrated to Unix systems.

Q: Which hardware is required?
A: This will depend on various factors, e.g. the number of sources, the volume and complexity of data, the frequency and complexity of access. Depending on the scenario, caatoosee's iq-server can even operate very efficiently on relatively small systems (e.g. PIII, 1 GHz, 256 MB RAM). For more complex applications, iq-server's scalability and multithreading capabilities ensure that hardware can be adapted to meet any requirement.

Q: How can the caatoosee iq-server be scaled?
A: The iq-server is based on a distributed architecture which uses messaging services to link disparate modules and sources. Therefore, the number of instances of individual modules can be increased, or similarly the entire system can be multiplied. Thanks to multithreading and multiprocessor support, there are no limits to iq-server's scalability.

Q: In addition to the operating system and caatoosee iq-server itself, which other software is required?
A: caatoosee's solution is not dependent on any particular commercial software product. However, depending on the application, certain basic components will be required, such as Application Server, Web Server, Administration Database or Messaging System.

Q: Which databases does the caatoosee iq-server support?
A: Alongside a standard database connector, there are native solutions for DB2, Oracle, Tamino und MS SQL.

Q: Does the caatoosee iq-server provide the possibility of an API to interface with other applications?
A: Yes. The iq-server is based on J2EE and has several interfaces when it comes to the front end, systems and sources.

Q: Can the search screen, list of results, etc. be adapted to take into account a company's CI?
A: The design of the front end can be adapted to meet the user's requirements. There are various programming interfaces allowing the integration of iq-server functionality (Java/JSP, ASP, PHP).

Q: Is there a function that allows users to find related documents?
A: Yes, with the help of the "what's related" module, documents can be automatically linked; related documents are displayed accordingly.

Q: Is there any possibility of reducing the number of results?
A: With the help of so-called pattern matching, a search query can contain a vast amount of information. In contrast to conventional technology this does not result in "zero matches", but rather leads to more accurate search results. This is also to be seen as an important prerequisite when it comes to automating processes.

Q: Is a phonetic search possible?
A: Yes. There are so-called measures of similarity that define the underlying rules for "similarity". These can be adapted to personal requirements.

Q: I would like my search query for "vehicles" to also display information on "cars". Is it possible to find synonyms?
A: Yes. Using the "thesaurus" module, existing thesauri can be imported and included in the search process.

Q: How are multilingual documents processed?
A: Documents stored in a different language do not require any special processing. The main focus is on text patterns, which are not dependent on any particular language (for those language regions supported).

Q: Which types of document can be indexed?
A: The iq-server currently supports more than 225 different document formats, e.g. MS Office documents, PDF or HTML. Even older formats are supported.

Q: How long does it take to implement the caatoosee iq-server?
A: Installation of the iq-server and the connection to standard sources can be implemented within 30 minutes. However, user requirements are usually more complex than this. In the case of a medium level of complexity, full implementation will take several weeks.

Q: Do you offer training for your range of products?
A: Training sessions are held in Leonberg (HQ), Hildesheim, Switzerland (Basel), or wherever you are located.

Q: In Client/Server networks, how do you safeguard against unauthorized access to certain data records or documents?
A: The iq-server boasts flexible high-performance security features. It utilizes the user information and access rights from enterprise security systems and source systems. Furthermore, all internal communication is encrypted, and the index of the iq-server prohibits the reproduction of data.
