caatoosee closes first quarter with a profit
Revenue growth of 7 percent/CEO Guido Alt: "We are on track" |

The information logistics specialist posted a slight profit and expanded its sales revenues in the first three months (April to June) of the fiscal year 2002 / 2003. Earnings before interest and taxes amounted to EUR 0.1 million (same quarter in the previous year, before exceptional charges: minus EUR 8.1 million). At the same time, revenues increased to EUR 11.1 million (same quarter in the previous year: EUR 10.4 million). This revenue growth of 7 percent was achieved despite a shortfall of sales as a result of the discontinuance of low-margin business units that were deconsolidated in the course of the previous fiscal year. As of June 30, 2002, caatoosee employed 767 people (same quarter in the previous year: 817 employees).

The gross margin on sales for the first quarter of the fiscal year stood at 37 percent. Gross income amounted to EUR 4.1 million (same quarter in the previous year: EUR 0.6 million), which corresponds to an increase of 581 percent. Net income for the period was EUR 0.3 million (same quarter in the previous year: minus EUR 12.3 million). Based on a total number of shares of around 17.3 million, earnings per share for the quarter just ended stood at EUR 0.02.
In the quarter under review, general and administrative expenses in the amount of EUR 1.9 million recorded a further decrease in absolute terms (same quarter in the previous year: EUR 3.5 million). Selling expenses amounted to EUR 1.6 million (same quarter in the previous year: EUR 1.4 million). As regards the development of its product and service portfolio, caatoosee's main focus continued to be on its core product for information qualification, the iq-server. An amount of EUR 1.2 million was invested in product development. This corresponds to 11 percent of sales. The equity ratio as of June 30, 2002, stood at 65 percent.
For Guido Alt, the CEO of , the company's Q1 performance "proves that restructuring is successful and that the clear focus on software products is the right approach." Alt continued: "Although we have disposed of several of our equity investments, we have been able to accelerate sales, thus outperforming the general market trend.
