The Fort Knox of data: Public key infrastructure
Customer: Novartis
For a global player like the Swiss-based Novartis Group (Basle), networked computer systems and central databases are essential to maintaining a reliable information flow. Since a total of 70,000 employees at 170 sites have access to internal and external data, Novartis wanted to strengthen its security arrangements by means of a public key infrastructure (PKI) to be built with caatoosee expertise.

Based on a largely standardised design, the PKI guarantees the confidentiality and high level of security needed for processing electronic transactions. The PKI developed jointly by caatoosee and Novartis enhances all the existing security measures used to identify employees and check the authenticity of documents, such as passwords and PINs. It also includes electronic signatures, measures to protect data integrity and data encryption methods. caatoosee schweiz ag is to deliver, install and operate the infrastructure for Novartis. The entire group is set to benefit from a standard PKI by the close of 2002.
