Locating information faster |

Customer: Institute of Directors, UK |
Just as businesses want to deliver a high-quality information service for their employees, organizations are realizing how vital it is to supply their members with fast, point-and-click access to the information they need. But with data volumes growing at such a rapid rate, this is no easy feat. New information is processed and stored in a wide range of data sources each day. The UK-based Institute of Directors has found the perfect solution: With the caatoosee iq-server, its 55,000 members have access to all information at the drop of a hat. |
IoD: A 55,000-strong membership |
The British Institute of Directors (IoD) was founded back in 1903, and serves directors in both the private and public sectors. Today, it has 55,000 members spanning the whole spectrum of business leadership. The IoDs goals are to promote entrepreneurship and create an environment that is conducive to business success. |
The Institute is guided by three principles:
- To help members develop their ideas
- To represent their business interests
- To promote professionalism in the boardroom
During the last five years, the IoD membership has increased by over 50%, and includes directors from many sectors of industry. Both CEOs of large enterprises and founders of start-ups are represented. The IoD offers members the chance to meet and exchange views at IoD meetings in towns and cities across the UK, with regional centers located in six major cities. The IoD Web site at has over 1,500 pages from which members can access details of conferences and network events, business publications, information services and a comprehensive business archive. Specialist director training courses, personal director mentoring and board-level consultancy are also available.

Faster, enhanced searching means greater usability for members |
The growth in membership has been reflected by a burgeoning amount of information on the Institutes Web site. With expert advice, new courses and surveys being added by the day, it became increasingly difficult for members to find exactly what they required at the touch of a button. It was at this point that the IoD started its search for suitable solution. After conducting internal tests on a range of software products, it eventually opted for caatoosee software because of its ability to quickly filter required information from unstructured data sources like pdf files and Web sites as well as structured data sources. The iq servers high level of error tolerance also meant that it returned the required information even when users made mistakes when entering their search terms. Another plus point was that caatoosee technology guarantees consistently high performance even with dynamically growing data volumes. Finally, the software came equipped with an interface that would enable quick and easy integration with the Intershop Enfinity software used by the IoD to manage its Web pages. |

Newly installed caatoosee software achieves high customer satisfaction |
The caatoosee software was installed at at the turn of 2002/2003 within just 3 days, and is now paying dividends for the IoD. Since the beginning of 2003, user satisfaction has improved appreciably and the IoD has already seen an increase in its online event and conference bookings. For Jonathan Cummings, Director of eBusiness at the IoD, the decision to deploy the caatoosee product has proven to be a success: "caatoosee has provided us with an extremely efficient software product for qualifying information, helping us to significantly improve ease of use for our members." Jim Stone, IT Director at IOD added, "caatoosee has a strong support team that was very efficient and caatoosee were very proactive in implementing their product and to help us maximize its benefit. We have enjoyed working closely with them".
